I crashed my car into a truck...

Saturday I had a cozy and friendly chat
with this wonderful creative soul I met
She and the market we attended
inspired me, so my creative blockage ended
Full of spirit, energy and ideas
I drove home with great ease...
But with a head so full and somewhere else
I didn't see the alarm bells...

I had crashed my car into a truck
but all in all I had great luck
not me, nor any other human soul got in any pain
too bad for my car, I can't say the same...
It's not good, it's wrecked, it's bad
oh what a great car I had...

So I went to bed with puffy eyes
all day I had ''the cries''.

But let me tell you something here,
my happiness is what is most dear,
I could say 2013 is a year of bad luck
but that would get me all stuck...
I see it as a year of chances
a year with balancing acts and dances

These are the chances I see,
will you think along with me?
I get to ride my bicycle more and longer
and that will only make me stronger
All these options lay at my feet,
all these opportunities I will meet:
I get to live without a car
and see if it will get me far
I maybe get to buy a motorbike
one of those vintage ones I like...

Things are what you make them out to be
but not always easy, if you ask me.
This is quite a bummer,
but all in all, I had a great summer!
Look at some pictures of the past weeks
this is a downer, but I had great peaks!

Me and the little boy from next door,
did a swap:
He got a pancake
and I got fresh picked berries.
That worked fine for me!
Herbs from the garden!
Delicious in a freshly prepared wok!

I loved spending time with old friends, new friends
and my lovely family!

I tasted the most fresh berries ever!
Straight from the bush...
Loved biking over and
watering Maria's awesome garden!
(And sometimes
taking some produce home)

A little bit of crafting (like this chalk board I made)
and just some enjoying the beautiful and pretty life.
It says: ''Beautiful, right? ... everything!''

I found a great yoga school in Lier
and already learned a lot!
And practised some :)
Got to wear my vintage yellow boots,
because the sun was out!

Another tiny craft project: I think/hope I made some one happy with it...
In the front:
''Your mind is like a parachute... it only functions when open'' Frank Zappa.

This little piece of crazy
has to be part
of a successful summer, of course!
A market or two
with my lovely sister
and the little one.

Great weather in Belgium,
so as many outside drinks as possible!

Summer was in our garden
and it was great!
Frozen yoghourt in Greece...
Oh yes!

Making jam is international business

My first time was in Lier,
and I started with a little bit of fear...
But with some help and good advice,
you could ask me to do it twice!

I got a big load of red berries from
my brother in law's parents. Thank you!
It was very tempting to start
feet-smashing them...
But I will keep that for a trip to
France and grapes one day :).

The result!
Pretty proud of it!

Then I was in Greece with my dear friend
and gave her a little hand
in picking fresh figs right of the tree...
(eating figs so fresh was the first time for me!)
We ate until we could no more...
Figs that fresh? Not in the store!
With the rest she made delicious jam,
the way I think only Maria can!

Half of what we picked... it was hard to stop :).
Picking and eating while picking :).

What a beautiful fruit!

The process...
... the result!

The old part...

The gorgeous ''Ano Poli''
is the old part of Thessaloniki.
It deserves it's own post,
since it was such a good host!
Quiet, calm and authentic
in every street I took at least on pic.
Here is a small selection
of my Ano Poli collection.

Black and white propaganda

I noticed a theme
in the things I've seen
on the streets in Thessaloniki city
something cool and sometimes witty;
Black and white posters on the wall
of buildings small and tall.
They caught my eye and kept popping up
and once I started taking pictures, I couldn't stop!

I sat there...
... and loved her!

Sorry... they are
a little aggressive
sometimes...
or depressing...
Quick, look at the cat again,
or the girl...

Yeah... this one is awesome :)

What Thessaloniki is to me

On each and every wall graffiti,
sometimes dirty, but often pretty.
Dessert stores and bakeries on every corner
and an undecipherable language for a foreigner.
An awesome hostel with lovely peeps
and old Roman stuff, of which they have heaps.
Churches, catacombs and an arch,
towers and city wall remains, very large!
Two kisses when you meet,
free water and dessert (!) wherever you eat.
Free chips or sweets with your drink
and even more passionate talking then you would think.
Handsome dark men with big sunglasses
and gorgeous (very visible) legs on every women that passes.
Iced coffee plays a very big part
and you should see the museums of Modern Art.
They are a great escape from the blistering heat,
also the photography museum is neat.
Water and a port nearby...
Conclusion: Thessaloniki is FLY!

Roman Agora, circled by big apartment buildings.

What would it be like living there?
In hallway of church by Rotonta...

Again: big apartment buildings in the modern part of town
and then just down, in front of them: Old Roman stuff.
Archeologists are still digging and searching.

Piece from Yang Yongliang in
the Museum of Contamporary Art.
Everywhere on the streets
Churches pop up...

Pictures from Chris Jordan
in the Museum of Photography.

At the port
Door, obviously :)

View from the boardwalk...
Too dirty to swim, but nice view!
Rotonta
Wall, next to my hostel

Lovely Greek sun!

So, this is what it looks like
when you order
a fresh orange juice...
Every house I was in, they had these
in a little cupboard or on a shelf.

One of many!
